Welcome to the Stanley Cup Playoffs NHL Prop Bets article w/ Chris Meaney as he shares his best NHL picks for Thursday.

The NHL slate gets underway in Carolina for Game 5 between the Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils. We’ve surprisingly seen nothing but goals in this series, but also nothing but blowouts. We’ve seen at least one goalie get pulled in each of the four games and it’s a big reason why the Devils’ season will end if they fail to win this evening.

The nightcap features the Dallas Stars and Seattle Kraken. The winner in Dallas will take a 3-2 series lead back to Seattle.

Let’s get after a few NHL props to consider.

The Best NHL Prop Bets

Jared McCann Over 2.5 SOG

(-130, DraftKings Sportsbook)

McCann only played 13:10 in his return and just 9:46 at 5v5, which was the second-lowest total on the Kraken behind Brandon Tanev. However, Seattle’s leading goal scorer managed to finish the game with three shots on six attempts. No other Kraken forward had more. I would expect a bit more ice time from McCann in his second game. We could see him back on the top line and he’ll remain the shooter on the top power play. This was a player who moved from 2.5 to 3.5 towards the end of last season due to his success rate. McCann has cleared in three straight games and he had at least three shots on goal in 12 of his final 14 regular season games.

Jordan Martinook Point

(+112, FanDuel Sportsbook)

Heat check time! Martinook has been one of my favorite players to include in a shot prop parlay as his shot prop has been 1.5 throughout the playoffs. He’s had at least two shots on goal in eight of his 10 games and he’s cleared in three straight. Unfortunately, there’s too much juice (-186) on the over 1.5 shots on goal, so I’m looking at his point prop.

Martinook has been a great story for the Hurricanes as he skated in the bottom six for most of the regular season. He only registered 13 goals and 34 points across 82 games while playing 15:37 per game. Due to all the injuries up front for Carolina, the winger has seen a boost in ice time (16:35) and he’s picked up nine points in 10 games. All nine of his points have come in four games against the Devils. He has a goal in three straight games and he has at least two points in each game of this series. The 30-year-old had a team high 10 shot attempts and four shots at 5v5 the last time he played at home against New Jersey (Game 2).

I get that it likely feels weird to place a bet on a player who doesn’t get time on the power play. The long list of injuries has Martinook skating in the top six and he’s getting chances. His 20 shot attempts, 11 scoring chances, six high danger chances, two goals and six points leads all Carolina players in this round.
