For the first time in two years, we have grass court tennis at Wimbledon! The first couple days haven’t been kind as rain has washed out much of the action, delaying a number of matches, and postponing many others. Weather looks to be calling for clearer skies on Day 3, which is great, and should quicken courts as temperatures begin to rise. So, let’s dive into the best bet for Day 3 of Wimbledon on Tipico Sportsbook.
Reminder, Tipico Sportsbook is offering 15% cash back on your next Wimbledon bet, up to $150!
Frances Tiafoe ML (-115) vs. Vasek Pospisil
I was very surprised to see Frances Tiafoe in a virtual coin flip against Vasek Pospisil after his very impressive straight-set win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. While Tsitsipas has yet to offer similar success on grass courts as he did in this year’s clay-court season, any straight-set win over Tsitsipas in a best of five format warrants a bump in market value, especially in the nature of defeat Tiafoe delivered. The American did not drop serve a single time against Tsitsipas, and I don’t view Pospisil as a better return player than Tsitsipas, so it will be pretty interesting to see what kind of tactics the Canadian implements in his gameplan. Pospisil is a former quarter-finalist at Wimbledon, however, he’s just 14-26 on grass courts if you exclude that run, which to me, means he’s being overvalued, especially when you consider his 2021 grass-court wins have come against James Ward (ranked 340th), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (via retirement), and Roberto Carballes Baena (clay-court specialist). Meanwhile, Tiafoe, in addition to his impressive win over Tsitsipas, had been in excellent form coming off a Nottingham Challenger title and quarterfinal run at Queen’s Club. Tiafoe should be somewhere in the -150 to -160 range, so I will gladly take the American at this price.
