What is a hedge in sports betting?

There are many ways to bet on sports — and that sometimes even means betting against yourself.

This is called a “hedge,” and it’s an advanced sports betting strategy.

In sports betting, a hedge bet is when you place a bet on the opposite outcome or your original bet. For example, if you bet on the Yankees to win, a hedge bet would be on the Yankees to lose. The key, however, is that the two bets would be placed at different odds or at different times.

An example: If you bet on the Yankees to win the World Series at +2000 odds, and then they make the World Series, you could place a bet on their opponent to mitigate risk.

Hedging helps minimize loss potential at the cost of winning potential. In some cases, you may even be able to guarantee profit.

Why do I need a calculator for my hedge bets?

Determining the right amount to hedge can be complicated. How much do you have to bet to minimize your risk by a certain amount? Or what if you want to guarantee profit? At what odds to you have to jump in on the opposite bet, and for how much money?

Our calculator answers all of those questions for you so you can be ready to jump on the best bet at any moment.
