This week’s PGA Tour tournament preview takes us to California for the American Express.  You read that correctly, there is no formal “open/tournament/shoot-out/etc”, just the American Express.  It’s awful, like this tournament can often be.  However, the amateur portion of this event has been canceled this year turning this normal snooze fest into potential solid viewing.  Instead of using three courses and having a 54 hole like a usual year, only two courses will be used and we can assume there will be a 36-hole cut.  Most importantly the coverage should be slightly improved with no amateurs, which should speed up play.
