The 2023 NFL Coach of the Year odds are open for betting. The favorite is Dan Campbell on DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook. Arthur Smith is the co-favorite with Campbell on Caesars. Sean Payton making his return to league, Matt Eberflus and Robert Saleh round out the top five choices on most sportsbooks.

FTN Bets is here to guide you through the latest odds, news, and how to think through your NFL Coach of the Year odds bets.

Odds to Win 2023 NFL Coach of the Year

Dan Campbell is a slight early favorite to win the 2023-2024 Coach of the Year award at +1100. That means a $10 bet will pay out $120 for a profit of $110. These odds give Campbell an 8.33% chance at winning Coach of the Year.

Other Notable Bets to Consider

  • Robert Saleh had a huge hole at quarterback last season. That was plugged with the offseason addition of Aaron Rodgers. The Jets defense was top notch, Breece Hall was a stud before his injury, and an already solid receiving room was beefed up with the additions of Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. The expectations are sky high for Saleh, but winning a division or even just making the playoffs after a losing season last year could be enough to win him the award.
  • Sean Payton already won this award back in 2006. After taking some time off from coaching, he is back in the NFL and running the Denver Broncos. The Broncos were 5-12 last season, finishing last in their division. Some thought the addition of Russell Wilson would make them a contender, but injuries and poor play kept that from happening. Payton is a media darling but is stuck in a tough division. If he somehow manages to win it, you can bet the accolades will follow.

NFL Coach of the Year Movement in 2023

June 21, 2023: The odds on Arthur Smith are dropping a bit. He opened as the third favorite on many books and is now shorter odds than Sean Payton and even the same odds as Dan Campbell on a few sportsbooks. Payton has dropped a bit from his opening price as well. I think it has more to do with the lack of respect for his Broncos team than his coaching abilities.

History of NFL Coach of the Year Winners

Here are the last nine NFL Coach of the Year winners:

Year Coach Team
2014 Bruce Arians Arizona Cardinals
2015 Ron Rivera Carolina Panthers
2016 Jason Garrett Dallas Cowboys
2017 Sean McVay Los Angeles Rams
2018 Matt Nagy Chicago Bears
2019 John Harbaugh Baltimore Ravens
2020 Kevin Stefanski Cleveland Browns
2021 Mike Vrabel Tennessee Titans
2022 Brian Daboll New York Giants

Brian Daboll was an anomaly last season. He won the Coach of the Year award with less than a 10-win regular season. That had not happened since Jimmy Johnson won it with a 7-9 record in 1990. The award does not always go to the coach with the best record, but it normally goes to a guy with a winning season. For a team coming off a good record, you usually need to see them take a step forward to a great record, win a division, and get a top seed in the conference for the coach to be in the running. For teams that were bad the year before, a winning record and playoff berth tend to have a coach’s name thrown into the discussion. Multiple coaches have won the award more than once, but no one since Joe Gibbs in 1982 and 1983 has won it in consecutive years. Don Shula was also a consecutive winner, but the trend definitely does not bode well for Brian Daboll.
